Save the date for this triple bill! Samassin perform earthy, vibrant, innovative, eastern tinged compositions, with ancient rhythms and cinematic beauty. This is original music in a world fusion vein; highly detailed compositions, rich with exotic melodies and grooves, each piece a vivid and emotional journey.
Written by composer/guitarist Kirsty Pittman and beautifully interpreted by the band, these enigmatic compositions draw on the influences of jazz, contemporary art music and traditional rhythmic and melodic ideas from the Middle-East and India.
Samassin is completed by bass clarinettist Justin Lim, flautist Belinda Woods, percussionist Gustavo Moreno and Daniel Hoban on middle-eastern percussion. Samassin are joined by The Anecdote a captivating, virtuosic, and fire-spirited acoustic trio. Featuring cello, trumpet, percussion and soaring vocals, their performances weave spells of incantatory magic. The music is a marriage of painstakingly sculptured songs, poetic lyrics, fiery improvising and spacious interweaving, drawing from elements of folk, world music, reggae and jazz. Throughout their careers, members of The Anecdote have performed and recorded with such musical luminaries as Gotye, Dan Kelly, Jeff Lang, Gareth Liddiard, Greg Arnold and Dallas Frasca.
Singer-songwriter Stephen McCulloch will launch the evening; his debut album, 'Good Things Take Time' was officially released on iTunes April 2015. Good Things Take Time went to #15 on the Australian iTunes Singer/songwriter charts in July of this year. The album also features Hamish Davidson (of the Davidson Brothers) on violin.
