5pm - Jared Baum

An emerging bass player in the Melbourne scene, Jared has been exploring the endless possibilities of expression created through the use of effects. Performing by himself, his set will feature his originals alongside a few covers of songs by Ornette Coleman, Black Sabbath, The Church & Joseph Zreikat. Drawing inspiration from a diverse group of artists such as Björn Meyer, The Triffids & Holdsworth, Jared attempts to convey the beautiful isolation & rugged maturity he witnessed growing up in the Aussie countryside just outside Nowra.

6pm - Hourglass

Top and bottom heavy, the Hourglass quartet is a project comprising a bare-bones rhythm section in conjunction with two voracious, eager horns in the frontline. Using the works of modern luminaries such as Joshua Redman, Omer Avital and Christian McBride as guidance, the group seeks to carve a path laid with the coarse endearment and primal bombast that pays respect to the great American jazz canon. Come down and check out our arrangements of some of the classics as well as a few odds and ends that sting with more of a modern-like sharpness.
