The evening kicks off with 'SHOL', a band that has been playing highly-improvised music for over a decade, with predominantly original tunes that blur between the boundaries of hard bop and free jazz. Influences include Miles Davis, Lester Bowie, Cecil Taylor, Sonny Rollins and others.

‘The Romans’ is a dynamic instrumental band that combines the spirit of jazz with the textures of groove, fusion and Latin, performing tunes from its latest album ‘To a Flame’, plus recently recorded new original material e.g. ‘Fanfare for the Frontline’ and ‘Sydney Road Strutter’. Influences include artists such as John Scofield, Bob Berg and The Yellow Jackets.
