The evening kicks off with 'SHOL', a band that has been playing highly-improvised music for over a decade, with predominantly original tunes that blur between the boundaries of hard bop and free jazz. Influences include Miles Davis, Lester Bowie, Cecil Taylor, Sonny Rollins and others.

‘The Romans’ is a dynamic instrumental band that combines the spirit of jazz with the textures of groove, fusion and Latin, performing tunes from its latest album ‘On Sydney Road’ e.g. ‘Fanfare for the Frontline’ and ‘Sydney Road Strutter’ and some iconic fusion covers, Influences include artists such as John Scofield, Bob Berg , Jeff Lorber and The Yellow Jackets.
