Instrumental Soul / Latin / Jazz - Forged during Melbourne’s COVID‑lockdowns, The Winfield Road Experiment began as a creative escape for a group of old friends and new collaborators. From the moment they hit the stage in the inner north, they’ve become known for high‑energy, instrumental performances that blend soul, Latin, jazz and blues into something both expansive and intimate.
Their sound features catchy melodies, infectious rhythms, flamboyant percussion, powerful horn lines, and wailing solos. The band is composed of talented members: Jake Underwood (guitar), Thom Swain (bass), Tobias Bottrall (trumpet), Nick Fruewirth, and Zeb Fernandez (drums).
They released their sophomore album Soulsa Verde, which shows their range from gospel‑tinged ballads to spy‑funk inspired tracks, big jazz party vibes, hidden flute solos, and thunderous percussion. As a live act, they’re best experienced when every element, horns, rhythm section, solos, comes together to build immersive instrumental narratives.
